Match information: Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the Champions League

Liverpool are on a date with revenge when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 this week, in a repeat of last season’s final
The Reds were denied a seventh European title when Vinicius Jr scored the winning goal when the two met in France in May. Since then, Jurgen Klopp’s side have endured a difficult season that saw them finish second in Group A behind Napoli to reunite with the reigning champions
But there have been recent signs that Liverpool may have turned the corner, after back-to-back wins in the Premier League have left them seven points short of the top four with two matches in hand
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have since added another Club World Cup title to their trophy cabinet but trail Barcelona in the LaLiga standings. On Newcastle due to a shoulder injury, the Reds are already without a number of players including Luis Diaz, Ibrahima Konate, Thiago Alcantara and Calvin Ramsey
As for Real Madrid, Karim Benzema has been included in the traveling squad, but Aurelien Choameni and Toni Kroos will be absent. Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Dani Carvajal will start playing, but fellow defender Ferland Mendy is still in the treatment room
