Rafa Benitez says Darwin Nunez looks like Fernando Torres

Uruguay international Nunez joined the Reds from Benfica last summer in a deal that rose to £85m, but he has struggled with consistency. He has scored 11 goals in all competitions – six of them in the Premier League – but has been criticized for being too wasteful

And former Reds boss Benitez, who brought Torres to Merseyside in 2007, is backing Nunez to be good for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Nunez got his confidence boosted after scoring the first goal in a 2-0 away win over Newcastle United on Saturday

Speaking on Sky Sports following the match at St James’ Park, Benitez claimed the 23-year-old has huge potential, reminding him of Torres, who scored just four times in his first 11 league appearances

The former Magpies boss said: “He’s a hard worker – he’s always running in and doing the right things, and continued: “After he finishes the game and scores a great goal he [the manager] will be happy. My feeling is that you’re watching the game – as a manager you’re really worried. He has the speed to do that and run in the back, for you as a manager he’s someone you have to worry about and then it’s over
